Hi, folks. I'm writing to invite you to check out the latest version
of OpenLayers at http://openlayers.org/. If you've seen it before,
please be sure to check it out again -- substantial portions of the
code base have been recently rewritten, yielding a leaner, faster,
more reliable OpenLayers, with the start of a proper JavaScript API.
Be sure to check out the examples and -- if you're interested in such
things -- the unit tests.

The code is still under very heavy development, and not all of the
features implemented in prior versions are fully supported just yet.
At present, we have a very solid tiled WMS browser, working in both
Mozilla and IE, with markers and popups just around the corner. You
can see where we stand in the new Trac site at:

http://trac.openlayers.org/query?status=new&status=assigned&group=milestone

We plan to put the polish on most of the pre-existing features this
week or early next, at which point we will cut a proper release. In
the meantime, you can download OpenLayers and try it in your
applications by checking it out of Subversion:

Chris, Erik, Phil and I have been working like mad over the last
couple weeks to push this out, and we are by and large quite pleased
with the results. We think you will be too, and we want your feedback.
What do you like? Dislike? What features do you want to see in the
first release, or in future releases?

Thanks very much for following along with us this far!

SDE
