After many months of work, I have the honor and pleasure of presenting
version 1.0 of OpenLayers. I want to congratulate John, Phil, Erik and
Chris on a job well done, and I would like to thank all of you who've
been following the OpenLayers saga for hanging in there this far. :)

You can get the code from:

    http://openlayers.org/download/OpenLayers-1.0.tar.gz

You can use it directly from:

    http://openlayers.org/api/1.0/OpenLayers.js

In general, the following URL will point to the most recent
stable release of OpenLayers:

    http://openlayers.org/api/OpenLayers.js

As always, the very latest development version will be available from:

    http://openlayers.org/dev/lib/OpenLayers.js

A note about versioning in OpenLayers: We are for the time being
following a X.Y (or X.Y.Z) versioning pattern. The X digit will refer
to the API version, and will change when the backwards compatibility
with the API is broken. The Y digit refers to incremental code
releases, and if present, the Z digit refers to the SVN revision.

As I mentioned earlier, we will be publishing formal API documentation
shortly, so you can have a better idea of what to expect from the
major version numbers. Also, we have a lot of new and exciting
features in the trunk, so we hope to issue another point release next
week or so.

Thanks so much for taking an interest, and we hope OpenLayers helps
you do good work!

SDE
