At Where 2.0, several of us (me, John, Chris) met with Paul Spencer of
ka-Map and discussed various ways of joining forces to produce a
better AJAX map library.
Presently, our hope is that OpenLayers will be able to incorporate the
best features of ka-Map's JavaScript client, and then ka-Map will be
able to shift to using OpenLayers as its front end. Moving forward,
both communities would be able to benefit from the strengths of the
other and from a unified development process.
In order to make this happen, we need feedback and most importantly
buy-in from the community. The ka-Map folks are hosting an IRC
discussion tomorrow morning, Thursday June 22, at 0900 EDT / 1300 GMT
/ 1500 CET, on irc.freenode.net #kamap. (Apologies for the relatively
short notice -- but don't worry, this won't be your only chance to
sound off on the subject.)
All interested parties are invited to come and help us figure out how
ka-Map and OpenLayers can work together to provide everyone with the
best possible Open Source mapping experience on the Web!
Thanks.
