[OpenLayers-Users] Slightly strange behaviour using current OpenLayers

Hello everyone,

Am experiencing a bit of slightly strange behaviour using OpenLayers for my
OpenStreetMap-based renderer at http://nick.dev.openstreetmap.org/openlayers.
The renderer includes NASA SRTM contour plus OpenStreetMap layers.

Firstly, nothing appears until you click the map area.

Secondly, the search is a bit unreliable. The search works by using a geocoder
service, then repositioning the centre of the map to the returned latitude
and longitude. For places near the default (e.g. Winchester [Hampshire UK])
it works, for places further away (e.g. Sutton Coldfield [greater
Birmingham,UK]) it takes a *long* time to render the tiles after the search
is complete. I know the search itself works in the case of Sutton Coldfield -
I get back a latitude and longitude - it's just the subsequent tile rendering
takes a long time.

Are these known bugs or am I doing something wrong? My source is at
http://nick.dev.openstreetmap.org/openlayers/main.js.

Thanks,
Nick
