Well sounds similar to what we are working on in some ways only our vector
data was political boundaries and imagery is Satellite imagery.

You have to have a way of serving the data as you pointed out mapserver is a
really good choice and is what we went with. Most of the work really was
done by mapserver for the data. OpenLayers was just a nice fit into the
website with its clean interface an example of how it works can be found
here. http://www.resmap.com/imgsearch2.asp

Hi all,

Erik, I appreciate the direction you've provided. However I should be
more pointed what i'd like to accomplish.

I'd like to use aerial photography (currently in mr. sid format) in
conjunction with a vector roads style layer to create a basic map of a
specific region. So, i would like to know how to host and retrieve the
images/vector road data (possibly by using MapServer to parse?). I'm
sure there's too much involved in the process to explain in an email,
but i'd appreciate any help/example code to better understand how it all
works.

Thanks again,
  Shaun
