OpenLayers 2.0 is a production quality release, and is the recommended
release for use by OpenLayers users.

Can you explain what you mean by "very slow"? In browsing some of the
examples, I'm not seeing any speed problems: Is it slow to drag? Slow to
load tiles? Slow to load the page?

If you can give an example of what you mean by 'very slow', possibly
with a URL that can be tested, or an example of HTML/JavaScript which
seems to work slow to you, then we can further investigate the problem
and possible solutions.
