The OpenLayers development team is proud to announce the release of
OpenLayers 2.0.
OpenLayers makes it easy to put a dynamic map in any web page. It can
display map tiles and markers loaded from any source. OpenLayers is
completely free, Open Source JavaScript, released under the BSD License.
This new release of OpenLayers supports a number of new layer types,
including support for Virtual Earth, Google, and more, alongside WMS,
WFS, KaMap, and GeoRSS.
Numerous users have helped with the testing of this latest release of
OpenLayers, both in examples and in their own development. We would like
to take this oppourtunity to thank all the users of OpenLayers who have
helped to test, debug, and fix this latest release.
The OpenLayers API can be used by including a single Javascript URL in
your HTML page: a number of simple examples are available from our
development examples directory, at
http://openlayers.org/dev/examples.html.
In order to use the new release of the OpenLayers API, simply include
the following script in your web page:
<script src="http://openlayers.org/api/2/OpenLayers.js"></script>
The /2/ in this URL indicates the major version of OpenLayers you wish
to use.
In one week, the API available from:
http://openlayers.org/api/OpenLayers.js
will change to version 2. If you wish to continue using an application
which is using OpenLayers 1.0, please change the URL you are using
before that time to:
http://openlayers.org/api/1/OpenLayers.js
Discussion on OpenLayers is available on our developer and user mailing
lists, available at http://openlayers.org/EmailLists/ , as well as on
the #openlayers channel on irc.freenode.net.
OpenLayers is proudly supported by MetaCarta.
Any questions or comments can be directed to the OpenLayers mailing
lists.
Regards,
Christopher Schmidt
