We were testing this this morning, and were unable to reproduce in the
current (SVN) version of OpenLayers. There's now an example of what I
think you were describing as the bug available from
http://openlayers.org/dev/examples/doubleSetCenter.html -- if you can
reproduce a problem with this page, or another one like it, I'd
appreciate knowing about it so we can try and get it taken care of.

If you could bring your crashing/looping problem down to a simple test
case, and also mention what browser it happens in, we can investigate
further.
